Daugaard Says Expansion Of Medicaid “Unlikely” For A Few Years

With the results of the November Sixth election, it’s pretty clear that health care reform is here to stay.  Part of the President’s reform package calls for an optional increase in Medicaid coverage at the state level.  Doctors and hospitals in South Dakota are urging the state to expand the program so thousands of additional low-income residents can receive coverage.  Governor Dennis Daugaard says any expansion of coverage in South Dakota is unlikely for at least a few years while the potential costs are examined….

The South Dakota Association of Health Care Organizations says about 48,000 uninsured residents will be left behind if South Dakota doesn’t ease its eligibility requirements for Medicaid.
