Officials Encourage Flu Shots NOW


According to State Epidemiologist Dr. Lon Kightlinger the flu bug is hitting early and hard.  In a normal year he says the flu bug would just now start showing up, however the incidence of influenza has been increasing since November with three deaths now reported statewide.  He says it’s an early and more intense influenza season this year… 


Kightlinger says there are approximately 120 plus people hospitalized across the state and, for that reason, people need to take precautions


Dr. Kightlinger says the flu bug is showing up at schools statewide with about a 3 percent absenteeism rate.  His advice…


He encouraged the public to get the shot immediately because it takes about 2 weeks for the vaccine to become effective.
