Retailers Association Head Comments On Penny Sales Tax FailureBy
Voters this week defeated an initiated measure that would have raised the state sales tax in South Dakota by one cent. The measure was placed on the ballot by a petition drive, supported by a well funded coalition of education and health care groups. The “No on 15” groups was made up of ag and business groups to oppose the issue. Shawn Lyons, executive director of the South Dakota Retailers Association, said the tax benefits were too narrow….
Lyons said opposing the ballot issue doesn’t mean they would stand in the way of increased funding for schools and Medicaid providers….
Lyons says state government and the people need to be involved in those type of spending decisions…
