Lawmakers May Look At Reforming Property Taxes In South Dakota

Rapidly rising land prices in South Dakota may lead lawmakers to take another look at property tax reform.  House Minority Leader Bernie Hunhoff of Yankton says there have been some recent eye opening land sales…

Hunhoff says the property tax reform plan passed by the legislature two years ago is still going through some growing pains…

The system now bases property taxes on the productivity of the land, in the past, it was based on sales price.  Hunhoff says the legislature may next have to look at property taxes paid by businesses…
