During a stop in Rapid City last week Governor Dennis Daugaard said he opposes a temporary sales tax increase that would sunset after a certain time saying that lawmakers would lack the political will to enforce it. Governor Daugaard says he wants to balance the state budget through a ten-percent cut in spending without raising taxes or using reserve funds. The state has a structural deficit of $127-miilion dollars and approximately $107-million dollars in reserve.
