Connecticut recently became the first state in the nation to pass a law requiring labeling for all food products containing genetically modified organisms. New York, Maine and Vermont are also considering similar laws. National Corn Grower’s Board member Keith Alverson of Chester says while consumers have a right to know what’s in their food, labeling other than for information does a disservice to G-M-Os which have proven to be safe.
Alverson says G-M-Os and biotechnology is not only safe, it’s a necessary tool for farmers who are trying to feed a growing world population.
Alverson says G-M-Os have had thorough government testing and have met any and all safety concerns.
