A physician working in Aberdeen convicted of distributing oxycodone, was sentenced on May 14, 2019, by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann.

Troy Edward Adolfson, age 47, was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $20,000, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

Adolfson was indicted for Distribution of a Controlled Substance by a federal grand jury on June 6, 2018. He pled guilty on November 14, 2018.

While working at a hospital in Aberdeen, Adolfson wrote prescriptions for oxycodone to others, who filled the prescriptions and gave the pills to Adolfson. He gave these people some of the oxycodone and a cash “tip” for filling the prescriptions. He illegally prescribed approximately 1,400 pills of oxycodone in this manner.

Adolfson was ordered to report on August 13, 2019, to begin serving his sentence.
